With technology growing by leaps and bounds every single day, it should come as no surprise that job preferences have also changed, even when it comes to blue-collar workers, so much so that one of the most sought-after positions in the country among blue-collar workers are of the heavy duty machinery technician. Although most people see this position as a lowly position, nothing can actually be father from the truth.

 

As the name implies, a heavy-duty technician is responsible for carrying out heavy duty machinery repairs. These heavy duty machineries can include trucks, paving equipment, bulldozers, large machineries in factories, and paving equipment. Not many people may know it but, in most cases, the work of a heavy duty equipment technician also calls for interpreting work orders, conducting heavy duty machinery repairs, and preparation of service reports, to name a few.

 

Depending on the nature of the company, a heavy duty equipment technician might also be responsible for the trailer fabrication concerns. Although most people see this position as a purely manual one, technicians actually make use of a number of computer software and applications in order to discharge their responsibilities.

Now, if you feel that you meet the qualifications for the position, you have to make sure that you undergo apprenticeship training with various companies. Keep in mind that most companies require at least a year’s experience to about two to three years in order for them to hire you.

 

One other thing that you have to secure would be your heavy duty equipment mechanic trade certification. Majority of the companies on the lookout for heavy duty equipment mechanics and technicians require applicants to have this certification.
